Zircon pricing remains stable at the start of 2016

On the back of weak demand at the end of 2015 and start of 2016 the price of zircon sand remains stable and is likely to do so for the first half of the year. Due to high stock levels and weak pricing, a number of zirconium silicate and zirconium oxychloride factories in China are choosing to remain closed until after the spring festival in February.

As of the 5th January 2016 zircon sand price levels are as follows:-

Chinese zircon sand 65% ZrO2 - USD 977-1008/mt Ex Works China

South African zircon sand 65% ZrO2 - USD 950-970/mt CIF China

South African zircon sand 66% ZrO2 - USD 990-1100/mt CIF China

Australian zircon sand 66% ZrO2 - USD 1,010-1,050/mt CIF China

With low levels of demand the price of zircon sand is likely to remain at a similar level for the first half of 2016 which will lead to stable pricing for downstream chemicals, such as zirconium oxychloride, zirconium basic carbonate and zirconium oxide.
