Iluka and RBM reduce zircon prices for Q2 2016

The 2 largest producers of zircon sand, Iluka Resources of Australia (Iluka) and Richards Bay Minerals of South Africa (RBM) have both reduced their zircon sand prices for Q2 2016. RBM reduced their price of zircon sand 66% min during March from USD 1,000/mt to USD 900/mt CIF China. In early April Iluka followed suit and gave their Zircon Reference Price as USD 950/mt CIF China.

Demand for zircon sand has been stable in the USA over the last year and has continued to grow in Europe, however it has been the decline in China's consumption that has led to a slow market and reduction in pricing.

Zircon sand is the starting raw material for the majority of zirconium chemicals and zirconium oxides and so this slight reduction in raw material pricing is likely to mean the pricing of these downstream products will remain stable in Q2 2016.
