Zirconia has excellent resistance to molten metal erosion, and is extremely refractory and chemically inert in most environments. Stabilised Zirconia Refractories exhibit low thermal conductivity resulting in very low heat loss.
Zirconia Refractories tend to be used in applications where temperatures are over 1900oC such as casting nozzles and gates, crucibles, furnace liners and kiln furniture. The use of Zirconia has grown with the development of more specialist refractories.
